I think my initial disappointment with this book stemmed from my expectations more than the quality of the story. It's a pretty basic mystery, and lacks the depth of detail found in the Outlander series. Not bad, just different. I found that I enjoyed the subsequent books in this series more, probably because I knew what I was getting into.
