The Invention of Hugo Cabret

The Invention of Hugo Cabret - I've had this on my bookshelf for a long time, and I finally picked it up after reading a very long thriller, when I needed a short story that I coud finish in a day. Don't be deceived by the page count; the pages are about 2/3 illustrations. This clever and beautiful book is appropriate for adults and children alike, from early chapter book readers to grandparents. It would be a wonderful book to read aloud while sitting around the fireplace at a family get-together, as long as there were enough copies floating around so that everyone could see the pictures. Read it now, before you see the movie! The storytelling style and pacing are very important to the feel of the book, and a live-action movie, no matter how good, could not possibly convey that feeling.
